Alright, so I decided to take on this project – remaking the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, that’s a mouthful, right? But basically, it’s just a fancy purse. A real nice one, though.
First off, I gotta say, I’ve always been a fan of the classic YSL stuff. I mean, the brand used to be called “Yves Saint Laurent”, then they switched it up to “Saint Laurent Paris” back in 2012 when this fella named Hedi Slimane took over. I wanted to find out why they did that and found the reason is to rebrand themselves. I kind of like the old name better, but what do I know?
So, I started by studying the bag. I looked at every picture I could find online, I checked out the brand’s official store, and I read a bunch of reviews. Some folks say if you got the money and you want a classy bag that doesn’t scream “look at me,” this is it. They say it’s well-made, got a classic look. Sounds good to me, I like a good investment!
- Gathering materials was the next step. I had to find some good quality leather, you know, the kind that feels nice and lasts a long time. Also, the material costs, labor, and economic conditions can also influence pricing. So I have to think carefully about that. This was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to find some that I think Mr. Saint Laurent himself would approve of. Then there’s the hardware – the buckles, the clasps, all that shiny stuff. I wanted it to look just right, so I spent some time finding pieces that matched the original.
- Then came the actual making of the bag. Now, I’m no professional, but I’ve dabbled in leatherwork before. I carefully cut out each piece of leather, making sure the measurements were spot on. I sewed it all together, piece by piece. It took a while, I gotta admit. My fingers were sore, and I definitely made a few mistakes along the way. But I kept at it, and slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.
- The details were the tricky part. This bag has some unique features, like the way the strap attaches and that little flap on the front. I had to figure out how to recreate those, and it took some trial and error. There were times I wanted to throw the whole thing in the trash, but I’m stubborn, so I persevered.
After many hours of work, I finally finished it. And you know what? It looked pretty darn good! It wasn’t perfect, mind you. There were a few imperfections here and there, but overall, I was proud of what I had accomplished. I did consider the python and calfskin variation, but it is a true collectible and increasing its value as an investment! It really felt like I had a little piece of that Yves Saint Laurent history right there in my hands.
Now, I’m not saying you should go out and try to remake a designer bag yourself. It’s a lot of work, and it’s definitely not cheap. But it was a fun project for me, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a pretty sweet bag that I can say I made myself. And that’s worth something, right?
So, there you have it. That’s my story about remaking the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It was an adventure, a challenge, and a whole lot of fun. If you ever get the chance to see one of these bags in person, take a good look. They really are something special. And who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to try your hand at making something yourself. Just be prepared to put in some work!
